United States Democrat representative Sean Casten’s 17-year-old daughter Gwen has died after she was found unresponsive on Monday.

His office confirmed the news in a statement.

While the U.S. Rep announced his daughter Gwen’s passing, no further details surrounding the cause of Gwen’s death have been provided at this time.

Gwen was found unresponsive in the family home by Downers Grove police on Monday evening, with first responders declaring her dead at the scene.

It is understood that the DuPage Coroners’ office also attended the scene, and her death will now be subject to an investigation.

In a statement on Twitter, Mr. Casten’s office wrote:

“This morning, Congressman Casten’s beloved daughter, Gwen (17), passed away. The Casten family requests privacy and will be issuing no further comment during this heartbreaking time.”

Gwen had been a big supporter of her father’s works, and earlier this year, Gwen appeared in a video supporting her father’s campaign saying turning eighteen would be a milestone as it would mean she could ‘vote for the first time.’

Many tributes for Gwen and condolences to the Casten family were expressed on social media.

Principal Courtney DeMent of North High School in Downers Grove, Illinois, wrote:

“Our school community is grieving from the loss of 2022 graduate Gwen Casten, a shining star.”

“Many people are hurting right now and we send our love to the Casten family,” the statement read.

Illinois Rep. Bobo Morgan tweeted:

“This is awful beyond words. You and your family are in my prayers, and I hope you find strength in the difficult days ahead. May Gwen’s memory be a blessing upon us all.”
