A 23-year-old intoxicated man has sadly drowned after accepting a dare to swim around the Lake at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club at around 9:45pm on Sunday night.
Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said the man accepted the challenge from mates before he got into trouble āHeās gone out to swim out to a fountainā
āMucking around with mates and heās gone under the surface and drownedā Sheldon said.
Police advised he was retrieved 10 minutes later and efforts to revive him with CPR were unsuccessful.
Management and staff at Emerald Lakes Golf Club said they were āextremely shocked and saddened by this tragedy.ā
āCounselling is being provided to the staff and we are fully co-operating with the Police investigationā the clubs spokesperson said.
Police are investigating what role alcohol played in the drowning āIt would appear that he had been drinking in the afternoon and the fatal mix of alcohol and water seems to have taken another victim, unfortunatelyā Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said.
