The Ukhrul district in India has reported that at least nine cows were found deceased over the weekend under mysterious circumstances.

The cattle deaths occurred in the village of Leishi in the Kamjong district and left the farm owner and authorities stunned.

The farm owner, only identifying as ‘L Samuel,’ tended to his cattle on the outskirts of the village, and according to the farmer, the cattle were well-kept and healthy.

“My livestock were in good health, and they showed neither symptoms nor any sign of illness. Everything happened abruptly,” Mr. Samuel told the Imphal Free Press.

The farmer said he found the cows when he went to check on them on Friday morning.

Mr. Samuel said that he had been rearing twenty-six cows, including calves, and often allowed the cattle to graze at the exact two locations, one on the north side and one on the south side of the village. The nine cows grazing at the village’s southern location were found deceased and bloated.

It is reported that the local District Veterinary Service in Ukhrul was informed of the mysterious cattle deaths and has collected samples to establish an exact cause of death.

Veterinary staff member CS Francis said it would be difficult to determine the cause of death until the tests arrived but mentioned that in the region in May, Asiatic Water buffaloes were found dead, and all had acute tongue blisters, foamy saliva, and foot infections,
