The 2022 Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships continue today into the last day of the championships.
Yesterday’s conditions made life very difficult for competitors with some events cancelled and others postponed until today, hoping for better conditions.
Yesterdays surf boat competition was called off in the early morning after a male competitor in his 50’s was hit in the head during a capsize in the rough conditions.

All competition was halted while first aid was carried out and he was taken to hospital for treatment and observation.
The surf boats will continue this morning in milder surf conditions.
Flags and beach events were held at Kurrawa while all swimming and craft events were moved to Bilinga and North Kirra.

In one of the biggest events on the Gold Coast for some time the athletes showed exceptional skill in braving the rough and choppy conditions with heavy rain squalls also hitting the beach in the afternoon.

The rain was so heavy at times it was difficult for the announcer to even call races due to the poor visibility.
There are many finals scheduled for today, in what looks to be near perfect conditions with organizers hoping they can finish the backlog of events.
