Cricket Australia (CA) is likely to postpone the one-off men’s test match between Australia and Afghanistan, which was scheduled to be played in Hobart in November 2021.
The test match has been up in the air since the Taliban took over control of Afghanistan.
Cricket Australia has concerns about the Taliban’s behaviour towards women. The Taliban has stated that it does not support women and girls playing cricket. However, this is a requirement to be granted membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC)
CA chief executive Nick Hockley has said.
“We made our position very clear off the back of some earlier comments (by the Taliban) around potentially cricket as a sport for women and girls not being supported in Afghanistan.”
“We unequivocally want to support the growth of cricket for women and men all around the world, including in Afghanistan.”
CA will have more to say about the future of the test later this week.
