Governments across the world are reacting quickly to the latest variant and implementing border closures and new rules across many nations. This is despite all the evidence coming out of South Africa suggesting the virus is the most mildest of versions so far.
The Australian government is no different, sealing it’s border shut for travelers from South Africa, Zimbabwe and seven other African nations.
Already two Australian states have reacted with tighter border rules, with rumors circulating that Victoria might slam it’s border shut to NSW again after two cases were confirmed in NSW on Sunday afternoon.
The commonwealth government has called a urgent meeting of the National Security Committee with health minister Greg Hunt saying “We will not hesitate to take additional steps if the medical evidence is that more are required”
Health minister Hunt has also announced that ATAGI will review the time frame for booster shots with the possibility of bringing it forward despite zero evidence that the vaccines are even effective against this latest variant.
With Christmas just around the corner all Australian’s regardless of their vaccination status will be watching events closely and hoping that this latest outbreak is not going to see another ruined Christmas, but with the panic being spread by mainstream media the outlook does not look bright. Hopefully our government trusts the science over the fear mongering.
