5 days before it was due to begin, Austria’s government has backed down on enforcing vaccine mandates. This is due to the Omicron variant being disproportionate to the threat it posed.
The health minister also said they will review it in 3 months, and it could be reintroduced if a new variant appeared.
The constitutional affairs minister said that a commission of health and legal experts recommended the suspension. Citing “There are many convincing arguments at the moment that this infringement of fundamental rights is not justified.”
Remaining restrictions are set to be lifted on the 20th of March except around masks.
