A body of a 66 -year-old man that was swept away by floodwaters in Victoria’s east has been found.
The 66-year-old from Mirboo North was last seen in a Nissan Patrol near Sullivan Track at Thomson, north of Mt Baw Baw, on Monday at 1.30pm.
A friend witnessed the incident from another vehicle who said his friend was attempting to cross the expanded Aberfeldy river before falling into a deep section of the crossing. He tried unsuccessfully to rescue his mate before the 4WD became submerged in the water and the alarm was raised.
He was found Tuesday morning by search and rescue squad divers inside his submerged vehicle.
Victorian residents were put on high alert and warned to take shelter as East Gippsland area would cop rainfall totals of up to 120mm, which would cause flash flooding as well as damaging winds of up to 100km an hour.
The coroner will prepare a report.
