A 29-year-old Cleveland man has been charged with eight offences by Bundaberg detectives today after threatening several people whilst in possession of a knife.
It is alleged the man carried out a string of offences in Walkervale in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police report that around 12:45am a 32-year-old man was rushed at by the alleged assailant while driving along Walker Street. The driver of the vehicle stopped however accelerated away once he saw the man was holding a knife and alerted police.
In a further incident, it is also alleged that around 12:55am while walking down Maryborough Street a 15-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy were approached by a man holding a knife. The pair entered a brief conversation with the man as they kept walking, before running from the man.
The man pursued the teenagers along Walker Street. Police report that the man chased the pair along Walker Street and the girl attempted to hide from the man in some bushes. The man found her and holding her by the neck, threatened her with the knife before walking east along Walker Street with the girl. The 15-year-old boy returned and approached the man who released the girl. The girl fled again, and the man chased the boy who ran from the man before they both teenagers sought assistance from a passing ambulance.
Police attended the scene and began patrols to locate the offender.
A third alleged incident occurred around 3:15am while a 42-year-old woman was at the back of her open van on Walker Street. The woman was approached by a man who threatened her with a knife. Police report the woman ran to the driver’s door and got into the vehicle and the man got into the passenger seat. The woman fled from the van and phoned the police.
Police patrols located the man on Walker Street.
The 29-year-old man has been charged with three counts of going armed so as to cause fear, two counts of threatening violence, and one count each of assault, kidnapping, and unlawful entry of a vehicle.
He will appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court tomorrow.
