The Central Queensland rugby league community is mourning the shock sudden death of one of their female star players on Wednesday, 6 July 2022. According to Coach Peters, 18-year-old Summer Jade Nicholls ‘could have gone anywhere’ in rugby league.
Summer has been described as an integral part of the Central Queensland Capras under 19 Women’s League. According to Coach Peters, Summer was a gifted centre and this season’s leading point scorer in the Harvey Norman under-19 statewide competition.
After a stellar performance at the 2021 Queensland Murri Carnival, Summer made the Queensland Merit under-18s team.
Summer has been remembered as a ‘natural talent’ who was always smiling and laughing. The Capras are supporting Summers’ teammates with a meeting organised for this Saturday with welfare staff from the club, the QRL and NRL. The Capras will hold a minute’s silence this weekend as players watch two Capras home games at Browne Park.
No information has been released as to the cause of Summer’s death.
