China has launched its largest incursions into the Taiwanese air defence zone to date. Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence has reported that 38 aircrafts flew into their air space on Friday while 39 breached their air space on Saturday followed by the largest one yesterday where 56 warplanes entered into Taiwan’s air defence zone.
The fleet of aircraft included J-16 fighter Jets, Su-30 fighter jets, Y-8 anti-submarine warning aircraft and a KJ-500 airborne early warning and control plane.
This show of force by the Chinese was followed by a story published by the Chinese run mouthpiece ‘The Global Times’ where they admitted this was a show of force and increased their military rhetoric “They (Taiwan) have thus turned themselves into a block that the Chinese mainland must get rid of strategically and an evil force the mainland must crush”.
The United States of American released a statement reminding China that “the US commitment to Taiwan is rock solid” and that their actions “undermines regional peace and stability”.
Fears are rising that a war with China is coming with Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu telling Australia’s ABC that “If China is going to launch a war against Taiwan we will fight to the end, and that is our commitment.”
If China was to invade Taiwan it is highly likely Australia will be dragged into the war along with it’s ally the United States due to defence pacts.
