With the Federal election to be announced soon, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) have announced a range of options to suit those unable to attend a polling booth on the day. Due to the nature of Covid, there has been legislative changes made for this situation.
For those who have Covid on the day of elections, or are forced to isolate or quarantine, secure phone voting will be available. Exactly how secure this will be is unknown at this point, or how they will ensure that no sabotage takes place is unknown. However, it is an emergency measure only for those with no other option.
Online voting is not available at this point even though it has been used before in other elections.
For those who are concerned with catching Covid and having to isolate on the day, there is still early voting and postal voting still available.
Mobile voting booths is an option for those who are in hospitals, nursing homes, prisons and remote areas. The AEC will have these implemented once the date is confirmed.
For the rest of those who want to participate at their local polling centre on the day, this option is still going ahead.
More information will be announced by the AEC once the election is called.
