The 15-year-old daughter of a McAllen High School girls soccer coach Patrick Arney has died during soccer practice in Edinberg.
Moira Claire Arney was described as a ‘cheerful,’ hardworking’ and ‘respectful’ person who had lasting impacts on the people around her.
While Moira’s death was unexpected and shocking, further details surrounding her tragic passing have not been released at this stage.
Moira’s devastated father, Patrick Arney, and his wife Deborah Arney who is also the school’s English-Language Arts Department Chair were not prepared to make a statement.
McAllen High School released the news in a statement, mourning the passing of one of their students:
“Moira Claire Arney was 15 and going to be a sophomore at McHi this year. She passed away during a club soccer practice in Edinberg.”

“Again, words cannot express the depth of this tragedy. We are a close-knit family at McHi and our heartfelt condolences go out to the Arney family at this most difficult time,” the statement read.
A vigil was arranged in Moira’s honour by McAllen High School, where many shared their fond memories and deepest condolences.
One of Moira’s teachers, Steven Frand said,
“Each day, she greeted me with a smile and a wonderful ‘Good Morning Mr. Frand; how are you today?”
“To say that Moira Made a lasting impression on me is an understatement. It breaks my heart to know that we have lost such a wonderful person,” Mr. Frand said.
Rosie Lopez shared her grief for Moira’s family on the vigils tribute wall, saying
“My heart aches for her family..young and beautiful soul gone too soon…may our Good Lord wrap his arms around her family during this terrible time…Rest in Peace beautiful angel.”
