A DoorDash driver in Massachusetts, USA is being hailed as a hero after he saved the life of a woman, to whom she was delivering Pizza to.
DoorDash driver Sophia Furtado arrived at around 10:00pm on the Friday evening of February 11th, 2022, at Caryn Herbet Sullivan’s home to deliver her pizza when she came across Sullivan unconscious and bleeding from her head.
Sullivan had taken a fall and hit her head after she went outside to wait for her order.
Sullivan told CNN “I just remember laying on my driveway, thinking, ‘This is pretty much over, I was laying there and saw a lot of white clouds.”
When Furtado arrived her previous EMT training kicked into gear, and she immediately went to Sullivan’s aid.
“Caryn was unresponsive, and her eyes kept rolling to the back of her head,” Furtado said, “I felt like I was going to lose her.”
Furtado called 911 and wrapped Sullivan’s head and applied direct pressure to the wound, keeping her stable until first responders arrived.
Police report that Sullivan went into emergency surgery at 2am for severe bleeding on the brain. The treating doctor said if there had of been any delay in her care, she would have died.
The Fairhaven Police Department honoured Sophia Furtado for her life-saving action.
Sullivan spent weeks in hospital and months recuperating at home. She credits Furtado’s care for saving her life.
“I am so thankful for her. She’s my guardian angel,” Sullivan told CNN. “Thank God, she was there. If she wasn’t there, I’d be dead.”
