As investigations continue into a double fatal crash involving a stolen vehicle earlier this month, Police are appealing for public assistance in the matter.
On Thursday 14 April 2022 at around 3:15am, emergency services were called to the scene of a crash near the NSW-Victorian border in the state’s Far West.
A passing motorist had spotted the vehicle off the side of the Silver City Highway 13km south-east of Dareton.
Victoria Police attended the scene and located the bodies of two people in proximity to the vehicle, which is reported to have rolled multiple times. Victoria Police advised New South Wales Police of its findings, and a crime scene was established by Officers attached to Barrier Police District.
Police report the vehicle had allegedly been stolen from Victoria the previous evening and has since been forensically examined.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing, and a report has been prepared for the coroner.
Police are urging any witnesses – including motorists with dashcam vision – to come forward, particularly any motorist who may have seen or picked up a pedestrian in the area between 3am and 7am.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is urged to contact Dareton Police on (03) 5027 7599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
