Luke Proffit a 22-year-old man from Sunderland UK has now been jailed after a horrific attack on his German Shepherd stabbing it 12 times eventually causing it to go into a cardiac arrest.
The dog was found on the beach in Sunderland by the general public and was taken to a nearby vet but was unable to save her.
Proffit later told police that ‘it’s not illegal to kill your dog’ Whilst police officer Peter Baker of Northumbria Police stated ‘it is without question that the dog was subject to sustained violence as she was found by members of the public with appalling injuries to her body and neck’
Luke has since appeared in court and pled guilty and was subsequently jailed for 18 months and banned from owning any type of pet for a further 18 years.
Proffit’s dog was believed to be in good condition prior to the attack and the violent assault was deemed to be a serious but isolated incident when the defendant was going through a serious mental health crisis.
