A plane crash in New South Wales Central West region claimed the life of a 57-year-old pilot yesterday.
The Cessna 172 light aircraft, which had reportedly left the same location earlier in the day, crashed at Coonabarabran Airport on the Newell Highway just before 4pm (Monday 18 April 2022).
The man, who is yet to be identified, was the sole occupant of the plane and died at the scene.
Emergency services responded to the site taking over from a member of the public who had removed the man from the plane and was performing CPR on the man.
A crime scene was established by Orana Mid-Western Police District officers for further forensic examination.
Police are working with Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigators to determine the cause of the crash.
