After weeks of speculation Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is heading to Canberra this morning to meet with the Governor-General to announce an election for May 21st. It is expected that Morrison will visit the Governor-General at 10:30 this morning and hold a press conference after to announce the decision.
Currently in a two-party preferred vote, Labor is in front of the coalition in Victoria and Queensland however the race in NSW is much tighter. Theoretically Labor winning the federal election shouldn’t be too difficult, with the latest Newspoll indicating that Labor is likely to pick up as many as 17 seats.

The race isn’t entirely over though, as Scomo could still win after his “miracle” run in the 2019 election delivered him 77 seats. To be victorious the Liberal Party is hoping to win back seats during their campaign run in the lead up to the election.
At this stage neither party believes that the outcome of the campaign is a foregone conclusion, pinning all their hopes and efforts on the upcoming election campaign.
