The remote community of Bogie is in shock after a shooting that claimed the lives of three people, and one person remains in hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Bogie is south of Collinsville, North of Mackay and has a population of 202. It is a very remote, hilly area that is home to a cattle ranch. The injured man managed to travel several kilometres to raise the alarm about the shootings just before 9am.

With very scant and confusing details provided, police had to declare a public safety preservation act on these details, then revoked it after finding a new location as they had found the location of the shooting.

The shooter or shooters have not been found. Police have shut down the area and are investigating.

The victims are all related to each other.

Locals in the area have been quoted as saying there have been disputes between the family and neighbours over fencing and boundary lines since the family moved in last year.

The community is in shock and fear as the police still have not found the perpetrators.

With such a large area to cover, which has forests and hills and is proving to be a logistical nightmare for the police, with radio communications being their most significant problem.

Police will continue to search the property and keep the emergency act up until they have exhausted all avenues.

Police have also requested members of the public and any aircraft to avoid the area.

Also, five other members of the family are assisting with enquiries.
