An investigation into SA Health expenditure has found 7 tenders awarded to several companies to supply defibrillators and associated consumables and maintenance at a cost of $71.4 million.
The contract with see South Australian hospitals, government buildings, and ambulances fitted out with defibrillators to save lives from cardiac events.
The following tenders have been awarded,
SAH875 – $11,452,004.00 awarded to Device Technologies for the supply of Defibrillators, Consumables, Warranty, and Maintenance to SA health (hospitals) and other SA government agencies with the start date of 27 May 2021 to the 30th June 2029.
We investigated the contract and found the product they were providing was the Corpuls AED but we were unable to identify how many were purchased or even the pricing of the units as SA Health has approved the supplier request for non-disclosure of this information for being strictly confidential business information of the supplier to protect the competitive position of the supplier.
SAH876 – $1,976,515.00 awarded to Phillips Electronic Australia Ltd for the supply of Defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA health (hospitals) and other SA government agencies with the start date of 5th May 2021 to the 30th June 2029.
We investigated the contract and Phillips is providing the FRx Defibrillator and the HeartStart HS1 Defibrillator with an agreed price of between $1562 to $1809 depending on the model purchased. The contract also includes the supply of replacement batteries and pads. Maintenance is provided yearly for $200 per unit, per year. This contract also fails to identify how many will be purchased.
SAH877 – $2,224,006 awarded to St John Ambulance SA for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA health (hospitals) and other SA government Agencies with the start date of the contract from the 4th May 2020 to the 30th June 2029.
We investigated the contract and St Johns Ambulance SA is providing Lifepak CR2 Wifi and Essential models with an agreed price of $1457.50 to $1657.50 per unit depending on the model purchased. The contract also includes the supply of batteries, wall-mounted cabinets, and replacement electrodes. This contract also does not state the number of defibrillators that will be purchased.

SAH878 for $17,848,114 awarded to Device Technologies for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA Ambulance Service with the start date of the contract from the 23rd October 202 to the 30th June 2029.
SAH879 for $848,623.00 awarded to Cellmed Pty Ltd for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA Ambulance Service with the start date of 19 May 2021 to the 30 June 2029.
SAH880 for $13,529,739.00 awarded to ZOLL Medical Australia for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA Ambulance Service with a start date of 19th May 2021 to the 30th June 2029.
SAH797 for $11,762,122 awarded to Cellmed Pty Ltd for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA health (hospitals) and other SA Government Agencies with a start date of 15th September 2020 to the 30 April 2029.
SAH874 for $11,762, 122 awarded to Cellmed Pty Ltd for the supply of defibrillators, consumables, warranty, and maintenance to SA health (hospitals) and other SA Government Agencies with a start date of 15th September 2020 to the 30 April 2029.
The full SA government investment in defibrillators and consumables until 2029 is a total of $71,403,245 million.
