Hundreds marched in Tunis on Saturday to celebrate Tunisia’s Independence Day and protest against country’s ongoing political crisis. Supporters of the “Citizens Against the Coup”, the “Democratic Initiative”, the “Ennahda Movement”, and the “Dignity Coalition” have reportedly participated in the event.
The rally was organised in opposition to the national consultation process to draft a new constitution initiated by President Kais Saied. “We are against the one-man rule in Tunisia because we consider the rule of the individual to be a dictatorial regime like the Ben Ali regime, and what the president is currently practising is a dictatorship in every sense of the word,” Human rights activist, Mounira Bouazizi, said.
