A delegation of U.S officials ventured into Venezuela to discuss matters related to the energy sector. With the U.S Department of Justice placing sanctions on the Venezuelan government in 2019, it has come as a surprise that they would meet to have oil supplied directly to the U.S.A.
The officials spoke with both the President of Venezuela and the opposition party. Maduro, the President of Venezuela, is open to negotiations with America and their current requests. The current sanctions may be relaxed if Venezuela agrees to ship oil directly to the U.S.
Maduro does not want any regime change to have these sanctions relaxed. They are currently the largest producer of oil in South America.
It seems some changes have already begun, as Venezuela released two American prisoners in a conciliatory gesture.
Even if Venezuela and America reach a certain level of diplomatic relations, the oil they produce will not be on the scale Russia did.
