National Security Advisor to U.S. president Joe Biden, Jake Sullivan has warned Russia that NATO would go “full force” if any air strike is recorded on NATO territory whether it is deliberate or unintentional.
The warning was handed down after yesterday’s air strike by Moscow in Lviv, Ukraine which is less than 25kms from Poland a NATO allied nation.
Sullivan has stated that if an air strike were to happen within Poland it would be considered an attack on NATO itself.
He also went on to say that “if there is a military attack on NATO territory, it would cause the invocation of Article Five, and we would bring the full force of the NATO alliance to bear in responding to it.”
Article five of the North Atlantic treaty “commits each member state to consider an armed attack against one member state, in Europe or North America, to be an armed attack against them all.”
Post Sundays attack Poland’s deputy foreign minister called for more NATO troops and equipment to be placed on its border with Ukraine, “to show Russia that we are strong enough to deter.”
