Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has criticised the West stating that they are trying to
“dismember” Russia. The claims come after the West imposed sweeping sanctions on Moscow, due to Russia’s military operations in Ukraine.
Maduro’s country has been living under major U.S. trade sanctions since 2019.
On Friday during a televised speech Maduro stated that “they are lining up, economically, politically, and diplomatically [in the West] for a big war against Russia. From Venezuela, we denounce it.”They want a war to dismember Russia, destroy it in pieces and end the hope of a multipolar world where we can all live.”
Venezuela condemned the UN General Assembly’s decision to suspend Russia from their Human Rights Council. With Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia saying that the move
“destroys bridges” necessary for progress and “seriously threatens security, order and global peace.”
Venezuela has been on the receiving end of U.S. imposed sanctions, critically affecting its oil industry, along with other industries. Washington has been openly critical of Maduro and is vocal about their support for opposition leader Juan Guaido.
Maduro’s government successfully foiled a political coup on the 3-4 May 2020 which involved both Venezuelan dissidents and an American private military company, Silvercorp USA.
