The Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley says that he expects that the Victorian pandemic declaration will be extended past next week.
The current pandemic order expires at the end of the 12th of April 2022 and needs to be extended if the government wants to enforce mandates, restrictions and other public health measures related to the Covid virus.
The Health Minister is using an alleged expected surge in Covid cases and hospitalisations this month as the justification for extending the pandemic declaration.
“As we see higher levels of infectivity grow across the community, as movements happen around the community (and) as there’s more indoor activity as the weather gets colder, you would expect that to start to be reflected in chains of transmission,” he said.
Many Victorians will be unhappy with this announcement considering other states are starting to remove mandates outright while many unvaccinated Victorians continuing to be shut out of the economy, unable to find work in a vaccinated economy.
