Justine Ezarik otherwise known as iJustine is reportedly one of the most successful YouTubers of all time. Launching her YouTube career 16 years ago, Justine is regarded as “one of the original queens of the platform” with over 6.98 million subscribers and more than 1 billion views across her channel.
According to reports, Justine has recently been diagnosed with Paget Schroetter’s Syndrome – a form of deep vein thrombosis caused by repetitive trauma or strenuous activity. Justine has suggested this may be from her lightsaber and martial arts.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justine explained her ordeal to fans stating, “on Tuesday I told my sister I thought I had a blood clot in my arm” and that ‘if doesn’t resolve itself and it happens again, I’ll go to ER’. Justine explained that she continued going to events until she experienced severe swelling in her arm on the Thursday night. She then informs fans that she went to bed on the Thursday night hoping she would wake in the morning, describing it as “a very scary thought to fall asleep to”.
Describing the veins as starting to break in her shoulder, Justine eventually went to the doctor who directed her to go to the emergency department. Her sister took her to ER where the doctors confirmed Justine had a blood clot before transporting her to a larger hospital for treatment.
The video goes on to describe the medical treatment provided and how frightened she was throughout the ordeal.
Justine openly tells fans that the first treatment was only partially successful, meaning she had to undergo a further two treatments prior to being given the all-clear.
Later that night, Justine experienced chest pain and shortness of breath. She further explained, ‘something did not feel right. I felt something was travelling, so they ended up taking me down for a CT scan, and surprisingly or not surprisingly, they did find a piece of the blood clot had broken off and travelled to my lungs”.
Justine continues to recover from the ordeal and is currently on blood thinners. Doctors continue to explore options such as the potential to have a rib removed.
Justine also urged viewers that if something did not feel right, to seek medical treatment instead of hoping for the best.
Justine confessed that “the last 5 days in hospital was absolutely traumatizing” before thanking the medical team and her sister who had spent the week taking care of Justine.
